I’m sure your parents, grandparents, well meaning friend or even family doctor meant well when they told you some of the following stories but unfortunately they are not true. Cutting your nail straight across or notching a V in the end does absolutely nothing in contributing to how a nail grows or fixing an ingrown nail. Wearing bad shoes as a kid, high heels, running barefoot or playing a lot of sports like “high school football” did not contribute to most of the bony foot deformities you have now and later in life. These are simply due to genetics, biomechanics, time and mileage.
